Curation rather than favouritism

Curation rather than favouritism

When was the last time you worked with someone that you didn’t gel with? How did it pan out? How was your communication? Your outcome? Did you finish feeling good?
I heard a comment once that I work or collaborate with ‘favourites’ and I when I heard this I momentarily questioned myself. Oh mygosh is that true? I didn’t mean it to be was my thought.  The lesson then came after considering this idea for a bit.  I discovered that it might appear this way but it’s actually careful curation or consideration and how important this is in our  businesses.

When you collaborate with somebody there is alot to consider. Does the individual or businesses language, content and approach in synergy with how you approach business? Would a cigarette supplier do a collaboration with an organic skin care company?

Your values are important to consider when working with individuals, how they will represent your brand, how they treat customers, how they communicate with staff and their own processes should always be in alignment for how you do business. Weighing up these important things is curation rather than favouritism.

I have worked and collaborated with many businesses and individuals. Some have been very difficult and high maintenance. I might like an individual but if working with them is draining rather than energizing, then I am going to move on, because one of the values I hold is that we must enjoy the collaboration and interaction.

Carefully curate who you work with, do your due diligence, talk to others, call on referees and make sure that not only your product and services align, but your values and approach are a match too. People do like to do business with people they get to know and trust and like, but its smart to take it to the next level and curate carefully.

Until next time,

Andy x
