I took Molly to see the new Cinderella movie today. I left my feministic goggles behind promising to view this version with a fresh perspective. ( When my girls were little I used to read classic stories to them and change the endings for an empowered and self assured woman enjoying her life and career) This version had a theme that impacted me in its simplicity. Be kind and have courage. This was the promise Cinders mum asked her to make as her dying wish, and this theme carried throughout the film. In my humble opinion, of all the whimsical statements, inspiring messages, poignant life lessons, its my all time favourite. Every challenge, negative thought, difficulty and frustrating situation I could think of today, I could apply either being kind or having courage to soothe, create change or shift my energy and focus. How many different scenarios can you think of that you could change an outcome from being kind or having courage?
So today be easier on yourself, be kind to others when they peeve you off, Choose kind words over gossip or putting someone down. Be your kindest to the rude service clerk, she needs it the most. When you’re procrastinating with your work today, have courage and push through the block. When you need to pick up the phone for a difficult conversation today, know you can do it.
Without wanting to sound lame ( or even if I do I choose not to care), I’m going to make a concerted effort to stay present in kindness and courage, its unlikely that I’ll make it 24/7 but I’m going to concentrate specifically on the areas when I bitch and moan, yell at the driver who cuts me off, and push through my self doubt with the courage I know I have in here somewhere
